Joey Cee’s brush with stardom came very early in his career, starting with Gordon Lightfoot lip-syncing at his first professional venture. That was followed by almost every Canadian band and artist of the era. He presented his self-designed “Danceability Awards” to The Beatles, The Beach Boys, Rolling Stones and Sonny & Cher in the early 60’s. During the Yorkville years, he guested as vocalist with many bands who performed in the village clubs and pubs. These included the likes of John Kay, Goldie McJohn, Rick James, Neil Young, Bruce Palmer, David Clayton Thomas and many others. Being a high school and club deejay as well as being a columnist resulted in interviews with hundreds of recording artists and movie celebrities. Many relationships were struck and ultimately Joey found himself on stage with many of these same celebs as their warm-up introduction emcee. His two year regular gig as the house emcee at the famous Embassy Club in the Yorkville district was a pivotal point in his career. Here he spent every evening emceeing whatever show was featured. Glady’s Knight & The Pips, Bobby Vinton, Ian & Sylvia, Peaches & Herb, Fats Domino, The Everly Bros., Neil Diamond and many others graced the Embassy Stage for a week at a time and Joey was there to bring them on stage. Big shows on big stages followed with Neil Diamond, The Who, Mitch Ryder, Eric Burdon & The Animals, The McCoys (with Rick Derringer), Bachman Turner Overdrive, Rolling Stones, Sonny & Cher and others.
